We are starting our 22nd year of homeschooling and I am so excited! Since I started homeschooling in 1996 it's been a passion of mine, and one of my greatest joys. My son Christian recently graduated, and I am so proud of him! I now have 4 homeschool graduates. My children all have different learning styles, and over the years I've taken many different approaches. We've incorporated the Charlotte Mason philosophy, unit studies, educational games, textbook/workbooks, online courses, classes, and co-ops.
My kids aren't as excited as me, but they do look forward to starting the new year. This year Sophie will be the only one still homeschooling. She is taking two online classes (English and Art) that a friend teaches, and a VLACS course, which is our state's online public school. She will be using textbooks for history and science this year, which is new (in the past we've used unit studies, videos and library books). Here is the our plan for this year:
English/Language Arts: Whodunit? Mysteries & More- 90 minute weekly online class with homework
Math: Principles of Mathematics by Katherine Loop
Art: 13 Art Techniques Everyone Should Know- 90 minute weekly online class with homework
Science: Apologia General Science (doing experiments with a friend)
History: The Mystery of History Vol. 1 Creation to the Resurrection
VLACS: Sophie's choice-online class (second half of the year)
Physical Education: YMCA homeschool gym class with team sports focus
Music: Ukulele and youth group band (singing)
Spanish: Rosetta Stone, and Duolingo.com
